Ceramic Vase by János Török for Zsolnay

A small ceramic vase from the 1960s defined by a compact, rounded form and a softly tapered neck. There is something almost animated in its silhouette—the object feels alive, as if it were a small creature resting in place. Hand-painted in black and yellow, it belongs to a series of small objects that includes vases and decorative plates, each exploring similar forms and surface treatments.

Designed by János Török for Zsolnay, the piece reflects a broader language of postwar Eastern European modernist ceramics. Its form finds parallels in the work of Lubomir Tomaszewski and Mieczysław Naruszewicz, where streamlined shapes begin to suggest movement and personality.

Founded in Pécs in the 19th century, Zsolnay became known for its technical innovation and distinctive approach to ceramic production.
