Entryway Coat Rack by La Moderna

Produced by La Moderna in Italy during the 1970s, this wall-mounted coat rack combines mirror, storage, and architecture in a single composition. Rather than separating these functions, each becomes part of the object's visual rhythm. Five amber-tinted mirrored panels are framed by solid wood uprights and punctuated by a series of sculpted folding hooks, giving the piece a distinctly architectural presence.

Its generous scale allows it to define an entrance without relying on additional furniture. The strong vertical proportions draw the eye upward, while the amber-tinted mirrors introduce a warmth rarely found in conventional clear glass. Even when unoccupied, the piece reads less as a utilitarian fixture than as a considered architectural element.

The folding bentwood hooks disappear flush against the frame when not in use, held in place by concealed magnets that preserve the composition's clean lines. It is a thoughtful detail, one that reflects the period's ability to treat everyday function with the same care as form.

One of those rare pieces that continues to function as architecture after the coats have been removed.
