Carlton Bookcase Mini by Ettore Sottsass for Memphis Milano

Regular price €600,00 EUR

The Carlton Bookcase Mini is a 1:4 scale edition of one of the most recognizable objects in late 20th-century design. Every angle, colour block and laminate pattern of the original is reproduced with precision — the primary reds, saturated blues, yellows and graphic black-and-white surfaces intact. At this reduced scale, its function shifts. The compartments remain, but practicality is no longer the point. What was once a room-defining bookcase becomes a sculptural object — a study in proportion, geometry and postmodern intent.

Designed in 1981 by Ettore Sottsass, the original Carlton challenged the rigid functionalism that dominated modern design. It proposed that furniture could communicate — that colour, asymmetry and ornament were not excess, but language. The Carlton Mini retains that proposition in concentrated form. Nothing is simplified. Nothing is softened. The same architectural logic and deliberate imbalance remain, only now scaled for a desk, a library, or a collector’s shelf.
