Luke Crouch's work begins with a deep understanding of wood and its behaviour. Based in Tasmania's Central Highlands, he creates furniture by hand using Australian hardwoods, traditional tools, and carefully considered joinery, allowing each material to inform the final form.
As a one-person practice, every piece passes entirely through Luke's hands, from material selection to final finish. Time spent speaking with him quickly reveals an unusually intimate knowledge of timber: how it moves, how it ages, where its strengths lie, and what it asks of the maker working with it.
That understanding gives his work a quiet confidence. Refined without feeling delicate and sculptural without sacrificing function, the pieces celebrate both material and craftsmanship while remaining grounded in everyday use.
